Tourism Seminar on waste management in hospitality and tourism sector at Kovalam Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Sept. 6 THANAL, a city-based public interest research and advocacy organisation, is organising a one-day seminar on `managing discards in the hospitality and tourism sector' on Wednesday. The seminar, which is being organised to mark the Global Day of Action Against Waste and Incineration, will be held at the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (IHMCT) at Kovalam near the city. The seminar will present the experiences of the `Zero Waste Kovalam' project. It will focus on the resource-recovery and employment generation aspects of the `Zero Waste Kovalam' initiative, said a press release issued by Thanal. Subjects that will be covered include the `economics of wealth from waste' and `running a discard management facility and operating a boiler on biogas.' Besides paper presentations and case studies, the seminar will also include visits to the `Zero Waste Kovalam' facilities at the IHMCT and Samudra hotel. An exhibition of paper products, coconut shell products and fabric products made from tailor discards, all designed for the hospitality industry, will also be held as part of the workshop. Mr E.K. Bharat Bhushan, Principal Secretary-Tourism, Government of Kerala, Mr C. Jayakumar, Director, Thanal, Mr B.S. Shekhawat, Chief General Manager, Nabard, and Mr B. Suman, Director, Kerala Tourism, will address the inaugural session of the seminar.
