Rains strengthen spot prices

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Sept. 6

HEAVY overnight rains led to strengthening of spot rubber prices further as arrivals declined sharply due to an unexpected cessation of tapping.

Buyers from all major sectors remained active in the main marketing centres but the scarcity of the raw material kept the trading volumes dull.

According to market circles, there were no quantity sellers even at higher levels, while the international indices also ended in a positive mood.

The NMCE rubber showed a mixed trend on Tuesday. The September contract was quoted at Rs 62.60 (61.89), October at Rs 60.61 (60.76), November at Rs 59.61 (59.70) and December contract at Rs 59.75 (59.72) per kg for RSS 4.

At TOCOM, the October futures for RSS 3 improved to 186.2 yen from 184.1 yen a kg on Monday. It flared up to Rs 73.83 from Rs 72.23 a kg at Bangkok.

The domestic spot rubber rates per kg follow: RSS-4: Rs 61 (60) RSS-5: Rs 58.50 (56.50); ungraded: Rs 56 (55) ISNR 20: Rs 58.50 (56.50) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 40 (39).
