Brands Pantaloon plans to tap local talent for Springboard design Purvita Chatterjee
Mumbai , Sept 6 AFTER importing designs for its premium brand, Springboard, from established fashion houses based in Turkey, Pantaloon Retail is looking at developing in-house expertise in this area. Sporting high-fashion brands such as Avva, Damat, Tween, ADV, Peteit, Spasso, and Pustij, the retail company intends to add five additional brands to its Springboard portfolio and design the brands in-house rather than sourcing them from abroad. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Hemang Savla, Senior Consultant (New Business Development), said: "All this time we have been importing the designs and clothes from Turkey but now we intend to get the designs outsourced within the country and associate ourselves with a design unit. The purpose is now to have global apparel made by Indian designers." While Pantaloon already has its an in-house design team for its own brands, there are chances of upgrading its existing design team to make designs catering to global trends. "We are looking at outsourcing certain elements of the design process and thereby becoming independent designers. The idea is to adapt the designs here." Springboard has been in existence for the past two years within the Pantaloon outlets and there is little chance of it being spun off a separate store brand due to the restrictions imposed on imported store brands. But now with Indian designers likely to take over the mandate of designing for Springboard, Pantaloon may look at having stand-alone stores under Springboard in future.
