Kochi , Sept 8

THE three-day Business-to-Business (B2B) meet, which concluded here today, generated business orders worth Rs 22 crore from customers across the world for products ranging from processed food to construction materials.

The State Industries Minister, Mr V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, said here at a press conference that the B2B meet had also evoked trade enquiries that could lead to business to the tune of Rs 100-150 crore over the next one year.

The State Industries Department had organised the B2B meet to provide a platform for Kerala's small sector to display its manufacturing capabilities.

This year 406 buyers participated in the meeting, including 82 from abroad. The number of orders this year went up to 102 from last year's 72. There were a total of 6,816 trade enquiries during this year's meet, as against last year's 2,859.

The Minister said some of the firm orders received during the meet include a Rs 4-crore order for handloom fabric from a US-based buyer. Another order is worth Rs 2 crore from the Gulf for bamboo products made by Uravu, a voluntary agency based in Wayanad.

According to Mr T.O. Sooraj, Director of Industries and Commerce, the Saj group has received enquiries from Kuwait, Iraq and Bahrain for ready-to-serve food products.

Pickles, traditional and ethnic food preparations, Ayurvedic products, locally made construction materials, coir and rubber products and handloom fabrics are the products that generated maximum interest among buyers. Handloom fabrics received the bigger chunk of orders, followed by food products, coir and rubber products and Ayurvedic preparations.

Spot orders during the B2B meet stood at Rs 14 crore. As compared with this, in the previous edition of the B2B meet, spot orders were worth Rs 7 crore.
