New Products & Services HLL grows hair-care portfolio with ayurvedic Clinic Plus Purvita Chatterjee
Mumbai , Sept. 8 HLL has decided to stretch the equity of its Clinic Plus shampoo into an ayurvedic variant. The new sub-brand Clinic Plus ayurvedic hair wash is priced on par (Rs 60 for 200 ml) with its existing Clinic Plus Health shampoo with milk proteins. With natural ingredients such as neem, tulsi and cinnamon leaf oil, the hair wash's dark brown colour distinguishes it from the other blue Clinic Plus products Clinic Plus and Clinic All Clear shampoos and hair oils. Mr Sanjiv Kakkar, Vice President, Oral & Hair Care, HLL, told Business Line, "With the launch of the ayurvedic Clinic Plus we are offering an alternative in the hair wash category." However, market analysts feel that the product is meant to help tide over the disappearance of the company's other herbal brand, Ayush, from the market. While HLL officials say that Ayush would reappear soon with new features and packaging, industry observers say that the launch of yet another ayurvedic hair wash shows that HLL is strongly inclined towards the ayurvedic segment. HLL officials, however, say there is no connection between the launch of Clinic Plus ayurvedic hair wash and the absence of Ayush. "It was a big opportunity for Clinic Plus to exploit and the two issues are not related," said Mr Kakkar. The company also launched Sunsilk Naturals 9 to 9 (Rs 48 for 100 ml) combing lotion for both wet and dry hair. It had withdrawn the Sunsilk Naturals brand of hair conditioners some time ago. This product was a new concept, and not an after-wash conditioner, that offered the benefits of oil minus the stickiness and smell, Mr Kakkar said. The after-wash product is expected to give the company some space away from the saturated hair oil category.
