Airlines Airbus team coming to finalise site for pilot training centre Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , Sept. 8 A TEAM from the European aircraft manufacturer, Airbus Industrie, is expected here later this month to consider a site for setting up of a pilot training centre. "A team from Airbus will be visiting India later this month for exploring where the proposed pilot training centre should come up. Some detailed studies have already been done," the Airbus Senior Vice-President, Marketing and Pricing, Dr Kiran Rao, told Business Line. The manufacturer is looking at sites in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi for setting up the facility. Local partners, both from the airline industry and some other businesses have shown an interest in tying up with Airbus for the project. While the Canada headquartered CAE will bring in the simulators for the project, the local partner will provide the land and building. The proposed centre will be similar to what has been established in different parts of the world, including Singapore and Dubai, officials said. As regards setting up a spare parts centre, officials said that a full understanding of the tax implications for setting up such a centre would have to be looked at before a final decision could be taken on the location for the facility. Airbus has agreed to set up the training and spare parts centre as part of the 43-aircraft purchase agreement that it has negotiated with Indian Airlines.
