Emulate `hope models', Capart tells NGOs

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Sept. 9

THE Council for Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology (Capart) has asked non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other organisations that want to take up developmental activities in rural areas to study `hope models'.

These models have evolved a revenue model of their own by initiating workable marketing initiatives to sustain further developmental activities.

Participating in an interactive meeting with members of FAPCCI and NGOs here, Dr Kamal Taori, Director-General of Capart, said the funding base of Capart at Rs 60 crore was too small for the growing expectations from around the country.

"As against a fund of Rs 60 crore, we have received applications seeking grants worth Rs 6,000 crore," he said.

The gap could be met by tapping sources locally available.

Instead of seeking Capart funds, one should identify and study those models that were evolved from within, without taking funds from any outside agency.

Citing some examples, he said the organisations could take help from NRIs (non-resident Indians), people's representatives and corporates.

"NRIs should be encouraged to become TRIs (Transforming Rural India)," he said.

Stating that there were problems such as greed, lack of creativity and insensitivity, he said hope models based on self-sustainable and people-based leadership should be developed. Instead of taking up huge projects, the organisations should go for small and workable projects.
