Mixed trend in spot rubber

THE domestic spot rubber showed a mixed trend on Friday. Covering groups turned aggressive as RSS 3 improved to Rs 75.44 a kg against Rs 74.90 a kg at Bangkok spot.

According to sources, major manufacturers bought sheet rubber up to Rs 60, while the general rubber goods sector and exporters were also active in the trading floors.

RSS 4 improved to Rs 60.50 from Rs 60 a kg at Kottayam while it remained flat at Rs 60 a kg at Kochi. RSS 5 and ISNR 20 were firm but steady, while latex 60 per cent remained comparatively inactive with extremely low volumes.

The futures market was almost steady quoting the September contract at Rs 61.67 (61.59), October Rs 60.52 (60.45), November Rs 58.70 (58.71) and December at Rs 58.75 (58.80) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions were low at 900 lots; recording 214 in September, 566 in October, 59 in November and 61 lots in December till mid-session.

At TOCOM, the October futures for RSS 3 closed marginally higher at 188 yen against 187.8 yen a kg on Thursday.

Physical rubber prices were : RSS-4: 60.50 (60); RSS-5: 58.50 (58.50); ungraded: 55.50 (55); ISNR 20: 58.50 (58.50); and latex 60 per cent: 39.50 (39.50).
