Tea Good demand drives up Kochi tea sale prices Our Bureau
Kochi , Sept 11 GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 8,41,000 kg on offer in the dust category, best CTCs were steady to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2 following quality. Good medium CTCs were firm to dearer by Rs 3-4 and occasionally more. Orthodox dust highgrowns were lower, while secondaries remained steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 65-85, medium CTC realised Rs 57-63, while below medium quoted Rs 23-35. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 90-106. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 21-25. Leaf sale also witnessed good general demand and the quantity on offer was 2,40,000 kg. Best highgrown brokens and whole leaf grades were steady to irregularly dearer. Fannings were easier, while mediums and secondaries remained steady. Best CTCs were steady to firm. Highgrowns witnessed good demand from exporters to CIS and West Asian countries. Other exporters lent useful support to secondaries and other medium orthodox. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-80, while medium orthodox realised Rs 37-47. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 43-47, and medium CTC leaf realised Rs 35-39. In the leaf category, Kodanaad Cl BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 106 followed by Pasuparai FD, at Rs 102. In the dust varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 105, followed by Havukal BOPF at Rs 100.
