Ms Vasundhara Raje

New Delhi , Sept. 11

THE Rajasthan Chief Minister, Ms Vasundhara Raje, on Saturday met the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and sought Central assistance in dealing with power and water shortages being faced by the State due to below average monsoons.

"I met the Prime Minister and apprised him about several problems faced by Rajasthan, including water and power. I requested him to expedite the Punjab-Rajasthan accord on water sharing, pending before the court for the benefit of the people," Ms Raje told presspersons after meeting the Prime Minister.

The Chief Minister was leading a team of 14 MPs, besides senior officials. "The Prime Minister has assured us 30 per cent extra power during off-peak period as also additional 75 MW to meet the power shortage in the State," she said.

Asked about free power provided by the neighbouring State of Punjab and Haryana, she said, "What people want is quality power for at least 4-5 hours and the State Government would do every thing to provide quality power to them." The delegation also met Power Minister, Mr P.M. Sayeed.
