Durian Industries eyes US, Bhutan

Hyderabad , Sept. 11

DURIAN Industries Ltd has set its eyes on the US market and Bhutan, besides tapping the huge hotel and office furniture markets in India.

The company, which opened a showroom in New Jersey early this year targeting non-resident Indians, will shortly open an outlet in Los Angeles.

The upcoming outlet would focus on office furniture, whereas the New Jersey showroom mainly focused on home furniture.

The company would shortly open a showroom at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, taking the total number of outlets to 45, according to Mr Manohar Jhunjhunwala, Director (Marketing) of Durian Industries.

"This will be just a stone's throw away from the Bhutan border. There are people in Bhutan with substantial disposable incomes," he said.

The company, which registered a turnover of Rs 150 crore, had identified office and hotel furniture as potential segments for growth.

Durian was in the process of setting up a plant at Ahmedabad to manufacture laminates.

"It will start production by December," Mr Jhunjhunwala said.
