LeasePlan on an expansion drive

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, Sept. 12

LEASEPLAN, part of the 861-million-euros LeasePlan Corporation N.V. based in the Netherlands, has started operations in India with two ventures— LeasePlan India and Lease Plan Fleet Management. Since its inception, it has grown to manage about 8,500 vehicles and a Rs 400-crore portfolio.

The company plans to expand this to about 50,000 vehicles by 2012. Ms Behets said that LeasePlan has turned fleet management into a profitable business for the holding company and has charted out a major expansion plan for India.

Operating out of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata, the company recently launched operations at Hyderabad and plans to locate in four centres this year, followed by four more in 2006.

With operations spanning the US and Europe, LeasePlan is now looking to set up operations in China, Mexico and Turkey.

LeasePlan Corporation manages about 1.3 million vehicles worldwide. It had contracts worth 10,388 million euros as of December 2004.
