IIMM to hold Natcom 2005 meet in Kolkata

THE Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM)is bringing back its three-day annual national convention "Natcom-2005", the 28th in the series, to Kolkata, beginning November 10, after a gap of 13 years.

Addressing a news conference here on Monday after making the announcement, Mr M.K. Bhardwaj, national president of IIMM, said the convention, built around the theme "Strength through growth — Role of modern Supply Management", was expected to attract 700 participants from around the nation and neighbouring countries. The keynote address will be delivered by Mr Shashi Kumar, Chairman of Coal India.

Mr Bhardwaj said IIMM, representing a wide spectrum of professionals engaged in various facets of materials management, is also organising an exhibition to commemorate the occasion, wherein some 60 industrial houses of national and international repute will exhibit their products.

Describing supply chain management as an emerging, one common discipline which can now contribute to competitive advantage of an organisation, he said eminent speakers from large PSUs/MNCs and academic institutions of international repute will discuss the emerging trends in modern supply management and also how a supply chain can turn an organisation into a lean, profitable, customer-focused and quality-conscious corporate entity. According to him, IIMM was dedicated to the profession of materials management through its multifarious activities including executive development programme, seminars, workshops, in-house training programmes and consultancy. He said in order to have an effective global interaction on the subject, IIM was also a Charter-Member of International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management, Vienna, Austria, which had its roots in 39 countries across all seven continents, with a membership strength of over 1 lakh.
