Our Bureau

New Delhi , Sept.13

THE Manpower Employment Outlook Survey has reported buoyant hiring activity in the country in October-December 2005, with Indian employers forecasting a 6 per cent increase in hiring intention over the previous quarter, the strongest among the 23 countries included in the survey.

Robust hiring activity is expected across all industry sectors, with the greatest expectation coming in from the services employers, followed by employers in finance and insurance. The survey revealed a Net Employment Outlook of `plus' 40 per cent among Indian employers, as against an Outlook of `plus' 34 per cent in the third quarter, a company release said. The Net Employment Outlook is derived by taking the percentage of employers expecting total employment to increase and subtracting from this, the percentage expecting to see a decrease in employment at their locations during the period.

Of the 3,835 Indian employers interviewed, 43 per cent said they expect to hire more people during the fourth quarter, three per cent of the employers expect to reduce their workforce while 48 per cent will maintain their present levels of employment. The survey covered employers in seven industry sectors. "Employment prospects in the next quarter are extremely bright across all the seven industry sectors surveyed," Mr Soumen Basu, Executive Chairman of Manpower India said.
