Air Deccan plans flights to Kerala

Kochi , Sept. 14

AIR Deccan, the country's first low-cost carrier, has announced its plans to start operations to Kochi from Bangalore and Chennai by the end of September.

Currently, the airline does not have any destination in Kerala, and Kochi will be its first foray into the State.

The airline recently took delivery of two new ATR 72-500 aircraft, one of which will be deployed in the Bangalore-Kochi and Chennai-Kochi sectors, a press release from the airline said. The launch date will be announced shortly.

Commenting on the new service, Captain Gopinath, Managing Director of Air Deccan, said, "Kerala has a very rich cultural heritage and is perhaps one of the most beautiful States in India. It has immense potential in terms of tourism, which has seen an explosive growth in the last decade. Our new flight will be a boon to domestic travellers going in and out of the State."

Air Deccan's fares have played a key role in increasing the number of travellers in the country by about 10 per cent, the release said.
