MANGALORE: The Karnataka Government will launch `Pancha Soulabhya' - a scheme aimed at augmenting basic infrastructure in schools in the State - on November 1.
Basic requirements such as classrooms, drinking water, toilets, ground and compound walls will be met under this scheme, according to the Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Ramalinga Reddy. He was speaking to presspersons at Kanyadi in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday after inaugurating a training programme for Bharat Seva Dal teachers.
With this scheme, the Government wants to ensure that all students are admitted in schools by 2007. The scheme will help solve the problems of school dropouts, he said.
"There is shortfall of 28,000 classrooms in the State. We intend to construct 13,000 classrooms during this year," Mr Reddy said.
The State Government, which has plans to open Kasturba residential schools in districts with low literacy rates among women, has released funds for the construction of buildings for these schools. Tenders have also been invited to start the work, he added.
