Mr Derk Haank, CEO
Bangalore , Sept. 14 SPRINGER Science and Business Media plans to expand its India operations through its two subsidiaries a BPO and a publishing group that produces reprints of specialised books. As part of its long-term plan to make India one of its key hubs, Springer plans to strengthen its Chennai-based BPO unit, Scientific Publishing Services Pvt Ltd, which currently employs 1,200 people. The company also plans to shift part of its German language work to the Chennai centre. While Scientific Publishing Services Pvt Ltd is expected to be a key hub for its STM publishing, Springer (India) Pvt Ltd is expected to tap the potential export market in African, Asian and West Asian countries for its scientific, technical and medical (STM) journals and books authored by Nobel Laureates. It hopes to grow its revenue to $50 million from the current $10 million. Mr Derk Haank, CEO of Springer Science and Business Media, said on Wednesday that India would continue to play a strategic role in the STM market as well as business process outsourcing. Mr Haank said the company planned to tap the potential for specialist business-to-business information on construction, transport and related subjects.
