Russia is on Satyam radar

K. V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad , Sept. 14

SATYAM Computer Services has put Russia on its radar. It is contemplating setting up a facility in Russia to cater to the local and the East European markets.

Though Satyam has not firmed up any concrete plans, the company is looking at options of opening a facility there. "Our aim is not just to address the local market but also to tap the local talent," a Satyam representative told Business Line.

He cited the example of China where the company roped in locally available IT professionals to serve both the Chinese and global markets.

A Satyam team met a Russian delegation at Hyderabad on Wednesday to get to know the opportunities and institutional support for setting up a facility.

The team was enquiring about the availability of English-speaking people in Russia. It also wanted to know whether the government had any plans to increase the numbers in case of a shortage.

The Russian Ambassador to India, Mr Vyacheslav I. Trubnikov replied that it wouldn't be a problem, as those who are in IT need to be proficient in English.

To a query on incentives, infrastructural support and training, Mr Trubnikov said such issues could be sorted out through negotiations with business partners.
