SCR posts 16 pc growth in freight

THE South Central Railway (SCR) has registered 22.45 million tonnes (mt) freight loads up to August in the current financial year, as against 19.34 mt in the corresponding period last year, showing a growth of 16.1 per cent. The originating passenger traffic too grew to 92.84 million (86.66 million), registering an increase of 7.14 per cent, a senior SCR official told Business Line.

SCR's originating earnings also rose to Rs 1,424.74 crore during the period, against Rs 1,254.7 crore in the same period last year.

"Originating earnings grew 13.55 per cent during the period," the official said.

During the first quarter ended June 30, 2005, the zone recorded freight load of 13.72 mt as against 11.42 mt in the corresponding quarter last year, showing a growth of 20 per cent. The total earnings were put at Rs 1,190.09 crore (Rs 961.92 crore), the official said.
