Jute IJMA to go in for 6-day week to protest high raw jute prices Our Bureau
Kolkata , Sept. 16 MEMBERS of the Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA) have decided to go in for a six-day production week to protest against the high raw jute price fixed by the Jute Corporation of India (JCI). Addressing a press conference, senior IJMA members said JCI had arbitrarily fixed the raw jute price at Rs 1,500 a quintal against the existing market price of Rs 1,150 a quintal. The Union Government had fixed the MSP of raw jute at around Rs 930 a quintal. It may be noted that the Jute Commissioner's Office had already linked Government jute bag orders for the food sector with raw jute purchase from JCI. IJMA members feel that this is illegal and should be abolished. "There is a rationale to link Government order with raw jute purchase from JCI if it is sold at MSP. However, if one had the same jute from JCI at prices about the market rates, then it would only jack up the market prices of raw jute," Mr Arun Bajoria, Chairman of IJMA, said.
