Coimbatore , Sept. 17

A RS 13.5-crore project — Galfs Agro Food Industries (India) Private Ltd is coming up at Ramapattinam near Pollachi in Tamil Nadu. The plant is being formally inaugurated on September 18.

The Chairman and Managing Director, Mr K.V. Mohammed Issac, told presspersons that this wholly-owned NRI venture would focus on capitalising the thriving food industry market.

Stating that this would be the largest roller flourmill in the South, equipped with Italian machinery and with a rated capacity of 180 tonnes per day, he said the company would roll out high quality wheat products such as maida, sooji and atta under the `Moon Drop' brand.

It is targeting to export 50 per cent of the products to the Gulf, while retaining the rest for the Tamil Nadu and Kerala markets. Company sources have put the annual demand potential for wheat products in Tamil Nadu at 1.32 lakh tonnes and in Kerala at 64,000 tonnes.

The commercial production is expected to start from October 1 and the first export cargo is expected to leave from Kochi port by mid-November.
