Letters Misleading tariff plans
This refers to the article `TRAI `no' to misleading tariff plans' (Business Line, September 17). In the interest of consumers, the regulator should investigate the possibilities of hidden charges and restrictive practices behind the `zero rental offers' and `unlimited usage plans'. Competition pressures compel operators to issue misleading titles. The TRAI should also listen to the consumers with regard to the variations in other charges. A few operators provide the caller ID facility free, but others prefer to charge. Detailed statements including the monthly meter readings of outward calls should be supplied free of cost by all the operators to enable them to check the accuracy of the bills. Some operators provide concessions for all the calls during night hours but others deny such concession. One particular operator offers free talk time to other numbers of the same operator but the facility is denied to the pre-paid card mobile phones. There are an umpteen number of such aberrations that wait the interference of the regulator. C. P. Velayudhan Nair Kochi
