Shipping Luxury liner to call in at Chennai

Chennai , Sept. 19 SUPERSTAR Libra, one of the luxury liners of Star Cruises, will visit Chennai on Tuesday. The 1,480-passenger-capacity vessel will be in Chennai for a day on its way to Mumbai, according to a Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) source. During the vessel's stay, passengers would visit nearby places, including Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram, the source said. Formerly known as Norwegian Sea under the NCL brand, SuperStar Libra is a 42,000-gross-tonne ship with 740 cabins. Measuring 216 m long and 28 m wide, she has eight restaurants and bars, seven entertainment outlets, meeting facilities, and a number of sports, health, and recreational facilities, according to information available at the Web site of Star Cruise, one of the largest cruise lines in the Asia Pacific. SuperStar Libra will arrive in Mumbai on September 25 from Singapore after calling at Phuket in Thailand, Chennai, and Colombo, en route. After a series of one-night cruises - aimed at introducing and showcasing the ship in Mumbai - she will commence a regular four-night destination cruises to Kadmat in Lakshadweep and Goa, two-night cruises to Goa, and one-night weekend getaway cruises from October 2 till April 2006. Four special cruises to Kochi and Goa have also been planned for December 25, January 29, February 12, and February 26, the Web site says. The positioning of the Star Cruises ship in Mumbai will provide holidaymakers an attractive holiday option to discover the wonderful sights and culture of the Indian west coast while experiencing world-class service and standards of a luxury liner, it adds. A ChPT official said that the port was geared up to welcome more number of luxury liners to the port.
