Airlines `Airlines with low cost, productive people will emerge winners' Our Bureau
Bangalore , Sept. 21 ONLY airlines that are truly capable of keeping their costs incredibly low will survive, according to Dr Kevin Freiberg, an expert in leadership strategy. Dr Freiberg, author of the book, Nuts - The Secret of South West Airlines, who's in the city to conduct a leadership summit, said that a shakeout is imminent in the Indian skies and only those airlines with low-cost and highly productive people will emerge winners. Comparing South West Airlines, which has declared its 56th quarter of profits, to two other US-based airlines that have declared bankruptcy, Dr Freiberg said South West's success could only be attributed to a motivated bunch of employees. Responding to a question on the country's corporate sector, he said several Indian companies had caught his attention, and Bangalore-based Jain Group of Institutions was an organisation with `purpose, values and vision.' "Systems and processes can be emulated, but the spirit of the people in an organisation is something that competition cannot take away," he said. Addressing corporate leaders at the summit here, Dr Freiberg advised them to surround themselves with great talent. "Hire for attitude and train for skill," is the success formula for a great organisation, he said. Just like companies boast of branded products and services, they have to develop a `branded culture and work environment,' he said. Dr Kevin and his wife Jackie Freiberg are principals at the San Diego Consulting Group, Inc, a management consulting firm. The couple have also authored Guts, which looks at 25 `gutsy' companies and the CEOs behind these organisations.
