The Hindu Opportunities Fair on Sept 24-25

Our Bureau

Chennai , Sept. 21

THE Hindu Opportunities Fair will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, on September 24 and 25.

More than 35 companies from IT, ITES, BPO, insurance, and sales and services sectors will participate.

Job seekers would have 103 stalls to choose from, and already 52,844 people have registered online. About 60 per cent of the companies are in the IT sector and 35 per cent in ITES.

Sponsored by Cognizant Technology Solutions, iGATE Global Solutions, Verizon and e-Serve, the fair brings together recruiters and job seekers, with opportunities for fresh graduates, post-graduates and professionals with up to ten years' experience.

"The last four Hindu Opportunities fairs were phenomenal successes," said Mr V. Kalidas, Vice President, Advertising, The Hindu. "We anticipate that the upcoming fair in Chennai will have an even better response."

Online registrations are available at www.thehindu.com or www.braingain.com; spot registrations are also available.

The previous Hindu Opportunities fairs drew a lot of footfalls. Mr R. Ramkumar, Director, Corporate Marketing and Communication, Cognizant, explained that in Hyderabad there were 74,000 online registrations and 30,000 spot registrations, while Bangalore saw 60,000 online registrations and 5,600 spot registrations. With Chennai's online registrations exceeding 50,000 three days before the event, the organisers expect the count to go beyond 1 lakh. "In the last event, we made 325 on-the-spot job offers, while others were finalised later," said Mr Ramkumar.

"The fair in Hyderabad was surprising not just in terms of numbers, but also in terms of the high quality of the resumes," said Mr V. Viswanathan, Associate Vice President, I-T Delivery, iGate. "We fully expect that Chennai will be the same, and our team will have many sleepless nights in the weeks after the fair," he added.

Chennai's Metropolitan Transport Corporation will run special services to Chennai Trade Centre on both days, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
