Lifetime support for all Oracle applications

Krishnan Thiagarajan

San Francisco , Sept. 21

ORACLE President, Mr Charles Phillips, has announced lifetime support for all new and existing Oracle applications including those that have come into the Oracle fold through acquisitions. Oracle Corporation has announced 9 acquisitions in the past nine months, including the latest acquisition of Siebel Systems last week.

Outlining the lifetime support policy in his keynote address here at Oracle Open World 2005, Mr Phillips stated that support policies for all Oracle applications fall under three categories — premier support for 5 years, extended support for 8 years (running up to 2013, announced earlier following the PeopleSoft acquisition) and sustaining support that will be unlimited.

Oracle, which is the largest enterprise software vendor operating in145 countries has more than 2.75 lakh customers worldwide. The commitment to support these applications is expected to allay fears building up among the key customers, especially ones acquired through the two blockbuster acquisitions of PeopleSoft with JD Edwards and the latest one of Siebel, which will be put through subject to regulatory approvals.

Oracle applications, ranging from the Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise and JD EnterpriseOne, offer and run core business applications in the areas of financial management, human resources, supplychain and customer relationship management. And it is these application assets that will be protected through support for customers. This latest announcement is significant as customers using Oracle applications require some handholding in using them, unlike the more sophisticated database sold to customers who are techies and understand them better.
