APERC posts Ombudsman

THE Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has designated the Director (Law) of the Commission as ex-officio Electricity Ombudsman for the State.

This is in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003 read with the Commission's regulation No.1.

According to a statement issued by the regulator today, the ombudsman may promote settlement between the consumer and the licensee by mutual agreement, failing which the ombudsman shall decide the matter and issue an award within three months from the date of receipt of representation.

If the consumer accepts the award, the licensee has to comply with the award within 15 days of receipt of the acceptance letter. The office of the Electricity Ombudsman will be based out of the Electricity Commission office located on the fourth floor, Singareni Bhavan, Khairatabad-500 004.
