`Replacement of DEPB scheme soon'

THE Committee of Secretaries has approved a new scheme that will replace the existing Duty Pass Book Entitlement (DEPB) scheme, said Mr Gopal K. Pillai, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industry.

He was speaking at a conference on `International Trade: New Rules, Newer Opportunities', organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry Northern Region here.

Mr Satish K. Kaura, Chairman and Managing Director, Samtel Colour Ltd, said there has been a paradigm shift in the manufacturing sector in the last decade.

The risk appetite has gone up to go after the opening up of global opportunities.

He identified several visible changes in the Indian manufacturing sector, including a shift in mindsets to become global players, a drive to achieve cost efficiency and competitiveness and put processes in place for innovation and product development.
