New Delhi , Sept. 22 THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday approved the fourth stage of the Rs 1,061.38-crore Teesta Low Dam Hydel Project that would supply power to West Bengal. The project, with a generating capacity of 160 MW from its four plants of 40 MW each, would be completed in the next 48 months, an official spokesperson said after the meeting of the CCEA. The project would be built by state-owned National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) at an estimated cost of Rs 1,061.38 crore at the March 2005 price-level, including interest during construction (IDC) component and financing cost of Rs 69.71 crore, the spokesperson said. The Centre would provide 75 per cent as equity, while the balance 25 per cent of the project cost would be arranged by NHPC, she said, adding the project would generate 720 million units in a 90 per cent dependable year. The project is a run of the river scheme located in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, which would be getting power from the project to reduce peak power shortage in the State. The spokesperson said the project also involves construction of a 45-metre high concrete gravity and reinforced cement concrete dam.
