Mergers & Acquisitions F5 Networks to wrap up Swan Labs buy deal by Oct Our Bureau
Bangalore , Sept. 23 SEATTLE-based F5 Networks will close the deal for acquisition of Swan Labs by the end of October. Swan Labs' technology for branch offices and application-specific optimisation will now add to F5's traffic management portfolio. Earlier this year, the analyst firm Gartner had placed Swan Labs under the `Visionary' quadrant in its `Magic Quadrant' for vendors of Web-enabled application delivery in a report on this space. Speaking about the impact of this acquisition on India, Mr Shailendra Sahasrabudhe, General Manager-India, F5 Networks, said, "People presently spend more on inter-branch connectivity. We will help them reduce their bandwidth, and yet send more data. Now, companies in India will shift from using costly leased lines to the much more economic SSL VPNs." Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Virtual Private Networks (VPN) allows a user to connect send data over the Internet using a secure tunnelling protocol. Most branch offices use a VPN to connect to their head office. Swan Labs' WANJet accelerates file transfer, e-mail, client-server applications. So users of wide area networks, branch offices for example, will now experience better performance. The all-cash transaction of $43 million was decided three weeks ago. Saying they were as yet unsure of the packaging of the product, Mr Sahasrabudhe said, "In IT, it is better to integrate onto a single platform. This takes time, and after that, the channel needs to be trained."
