Animal resource facility

HYDERABAD: The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mr Kapil Sibal, said a National Animal Resource facility for bio-medical research would be opened in Hyderabad.
Mr Sibal conveyed this to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, whom he met at the Secretariat Friday morning. He said the proposed animal facility would be a world-class contract research organisation with international accreditation to conduct pre-clinical toxicological evaluation of new drugs, vaccines, pharma, biotech and transgenic products developed in the country and outside.
The facility was likely to come up, at Rs 250 crore, over 100 acres in Genome valley. He said bio-tech research activities were being done quite well in the State.
Earlier, inaugurating the Biotech CEO Summit earlier in the day, Mr Sibal said the feasibility studies to set up the animal resource facility had already begun. The Minister also informed the CM that a Tsunami warning centre, at Rs 125 crore, would also be set up in Hyderabad. The centre, to come up at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Sciences (INCOIS), a unit under the Union Department of Ocean Development, would start functioning by 2007.
The Agriculture Minister, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Principal Scientific Advisor to Union Minister for Science and Technology, Mr S.R. Rao, and the CDFD Director, Dr Seyed Hasnain, were present, an official release said.
