Hyderabad , Sept. 25

LARGE MNCs such as Siemens, Bombardier, Alstom, Hitachi, Macquary Bank, Metrail, KKTS-Opus and domestic majors including Reliance (Anil Ambani group), L&T, Gammon, BEML, BHEL and GVK are among a host of companies, which have evinced interest in the proposed Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Andhra Pradesh.

The Rs 6,366-croreMRTS has received response from many other companies, according to the MRTS Metro Rail project director, Mr N.V.S. Reddy.

The project is being undertaken through build, own, operate and transfer model. Many of these foreign and Indian companies have expressed interest in the way this has been designed, he said.

The Government is working towards providing a clear right of way (ROW) for the proposed three routes of Miyapur-Chaitanyapuri (26 km), Tarnaka-Secunderabad-Hitec City (20 km) and Secunderabad-Flaknuma (13 km).

Given the magnitude of the project and various safety measures required and the financial muscle and technical capabilities to execute a project on BOT basis, the Government is working on a well-defined qualification criteria which includes a consortium that does not exceed five companies.

The Government wants to ensure that at least one company has experience in MRTS in the consortium of five companies and has a turnover of Rs 2,000 crore and a net worth of Rs 1,500 crore.

The Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Mr R.P. Singh, has announced that most of the companies intending to apply for pre- qualifications represented to the Government that they needed more time for finalisation of consortium arrangements and for containing board resolutions.

Consequently, the Government has decided to extend the last date of submitting their expression of interest to the end of October,Mr Singh said.
