Ciena opens research centre at Gurgaon

New Delhi , Sept 26

TELECOM network solutions provider Ciena Corporation today announced the launch of a research and development (R&D) centre located in Gurgaon.

The 95,000-sq. ft. facility is Ciena's first core research and development centre outside of North America and is expected to employ as many as 300 product development engineers within the next three years.

Ciena's Gurgaon Centre will supplement and work collaboratively with its existing research and development organisation in North America. In India, the company will be led by Mr Neeraj Gulati as Vice-President and Managing Director and Ms Dimple Amin as Vice-President of Engineering.

Ciena is a supplier of application-focused communications networking equipment, software and services to telecommunications service providers, cable operators, government and enterprise customers across the globe.

"A worldwide staff of 1,500 provide network solutions for more than two-thirds of the world's largest service providers including AT&T, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless, France Telecom Korea Telecom, MCI, Qwest, SingTel, Telmex and Verizon. In India, Reliance Infocomm and Tata Teleservices are leveraging advanced optical Ciena networks, gained through the acquisitions of TyCom Ltd and FLAG Telecom respectively," said a press release.

The R&D Centre will focus on technologies such as storage extension and optical transport, as well as multi-service switching, broadband access and network management. The company will recruit engineers with five or more years of experience from across India, especially technology-savvy hubs such as Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune.
