Advertising Madison Media bags General Motors account Our Bureau
Mumbai, Sept. 26 MADISON MEDIA has been appointed as the media AOR (agency on record) of General Motors. . The account, which covers both media planning and media buying, is estimated to be worth Rs 50 crore. In a press release issued by the agency, Mr Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director, Madison Communications, said, "We are delighted to have won the most sought after and prestigious General Motors account and that too on our terms. "We follow a very disciplined approach at pitches and make no exceptions irrespective of the size or reputation of the client. Large advertisers ultimately appreciate this. We are delighted that two of US's largest advertisers, GM and P&G, are in our kitty, despite our having no global partner." Mr Amit Datta, Vice-President (Marketing Sales and After-Sales), General Motors, said, "We have aggressive plans for India in the coming months and we needed a strong media advisor, as we believe that the media will play an important role in the successful fulfilling of our aggressive plans for India. Our exhaustive and thorough pitch process revealed that Madison came out at number one." Madison reportedly won the account from Universal McCann in a multi-agency pitch. The agency has in the last 18 months walked away with a few big-ticket wins such as Airtel, TVS, Marico, Tata Tea, Tata-AIG and Tata Chemicals. The General Motors account will be serviced by Madison Media Plus headed by Mr Basabdatta Chowdhuri out of Delhi, who will report to the Madison Media Group CEO, Ms Punitha Arumugam. General Motors is supposed to be the world's largest automaker and the US's largest advertiser. According to the US Measured Media Spend 2004, the company spent Rs 12,586 crore on advertising.
