New Delhi , Sept. 26

GAIL (India) Ltd on Monday said that it has entered the Rs 250-crore domestic octene-based linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) market.

According to a company statement, GAIL is targeting to capture 15-20 per cent market share in the near future in the domestic market, which is growing at a compounded annual rate of 10 per cent.

The company has manufactured the octene (H7) co-monomer based LLDPE film grade at its Pata petrochemical plant. This product finds application in the mutli-layer liquid packaging segment, the company said.

The domestic customers for this grade now have a choice as earlier they were dependent largely on a single domestic source. During 2004-2005, the production of polymer has increased by 13 per cent registering 2.99 lakh mt as against 2.64 lakh mt in the previous financial year. During the same period, polymer sales was at 3.19 lakh mt as against 2.73 mt in 2003-04, registering a 17 per cent increase.
