Strategy IOC delivery boys to carry Wockhardt's heart message Our Bureau
Bangalore , Sept 26 IOC's cooking gas delivery boys will be the messengers of Wockhardt's healthy hearts message. Wockhardt Hospital & Heart Institute and IOC have tied up for a joint campaign on prevention of heart disease. The `Mission heart life' launched in five cities is targeted to reach 10 million people, according to Mr Vishal Bali, Vice-President, Wockhardt Hospitals. In the coming weeks, Wockhardt's team of experts will conduct educative programmes for consumers at Indane outlets across the country, he said. "Such associations will play a pivotal role in combating the rampant rise of heart disease and these partnerships provide a perfect platform to take the message of prevention to the society and greatly reduce the risk of heart attack." The hospital has brought out a booklet called the Wockhardt Hospital's guide to eating your way to a healthy heart. One booklet will be delivered to IOC homes with each gas cylinder. The booklet talks of the importance of proper lifestyle, dietary habits, and exercise in order to avoid heart disease. Dr Vivek Jawali, Chief Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospital, said: "Indians have genes that make us predisposed to heart disease and according to the WHO, India will have 60 per cent of the world's heart patients by 2010. Even today, more than 50 per cent of patients who are at risk of having heart disease lack awareness about preventive measures. Through `Mission heart life' we hope to encourage people to lead a healthier lifestyle by eating healthy, exercising more, and reducing the risk of heart disease through smoke-free living, healthy nutrition, and weight control." Over 48 per cent of Indian homes use IOC's Indane LPG cooking fuel. "In Bangalore alone, we have 52 outlets that supply domestic cooking fuel to around 1.5 million consumers. Through our network of 600 delivery boys, we deliver around 18,000 domestic gas cylinders a day," said Mr U.V. Mannur, Chief LPG Manager, Indane. Athlete Ashwini Nachappa flagged off the campaign.
