Water Water storage level up 29 pc Our Bureau
According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), the level is 10.74 billion cubic metres (BCM) or 81 per cent of the full reservoir level of 133.01 BCM. Currently, the storage level in 11 reservoirs is 80 per cent or less than the average of the previous 10 years. The basin-wise storage position is better than the average level of the previous 10 years in Indus, Narmada, Tapi, Mahi, Sabarmati rivers of Kutch, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and the neighbouring east-flowing rivers and west flowing rivers of the South. It is 80 per cent or more than the average of the previous 10 years in Mahanadi and neighbouring east-flowing rivers. The position is less than 80 per cent of the average of the previous 10 years in Ganga. Out of the 31 reservoirs with significant potential to produce hydro-electric power, there are eight reservoirs, which have a storage build-up less than the average of the last 10 years' capacity.
