Infosys mulls entry into Kolkata

INFOSYS Ltd will soon evaluate options of setting up operations here.

The Chairman and Chief Mentor of Infosys Ltd, Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy, on Wednesday met the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and the West Bengal Minister for Information Technology, Mr Manabendra Mukherjee, during a visit to the city.

Speaking to presspersons later, Mr Narayana Murthy said that, on return to Bangalore, he would talk to his colleagues regarding the prospect of setting up software operations in Kolkata. Subsequently, a team from Infosys will visit Kolkata to evaluate Infosys' prospects with regard to setting up operations here.

Mr Narayana Murthy said he was "impressed" with the talent pool in West Bengal and the strides the State had taken under the current Chief Minister. He said industrial strikes and bandhs such as the one slated for Thursday was not too big a cause for worry.
