NEW ZEALAND currently faces a shortage of skilled people across all sectors of the economy and is very keen to attract the vast Indian talent pool, according to the New Zealand Trade Commissioner, Mr Paul Vaughan.
Addressing newspersons after inaugurating the `New Zealand Education Fairs - 2005' here on Wednesday, Mr Vaughan said his country now has severe shortage of engineers and human resource (HR) managers in the fast growing tourism sector. Indian students can find attractive prospects in these areas in the immediate future, he said.
According to him, New Zealand is one of the fastest growing Western economies and provides good job opportunities for foreign students on completion of quality education there. The country offers high-quality, globally recognised education qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
On the response for the six education fairs organised at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kochi, Chandigarh, New Delhi and Bangalore during this month, Mr Vaughan said there was almost 100 per cent growth in response from Indian students aspiring to go to New Zealand for further studies.
In the fair, representatives from all New Zealand universities and most government-funded polytechnics and institutes of technology and many a number of private technical education providers participated and offered counselling services to parents and students aspiring to go and study in New Zealand.
According to Mr Paul Vaughan, the country offers the most affordable education compared to most of the competing economies across the globe.
