Policy Industry & Economy - Steel Orissa clears steel projects Our Bureau
Bhubaneswar , Sept. 28 THE Orissa Government has cleared proposals by private companies for the establishment of two more steel plants and a titanium complex in the State. The proposals were cleared on Monday by a high-level project clearance authority headed by the Chief Minister, Mr Naveen Patnaik. As per the decision, Rungta Mines Ltd will set up a 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) steel plant in Sundargarh and Dhenkanal districts, and Bhusan Steel and Strips Ltd will set up a 3.1-mt steel plant in Dhenkanal district. The authority also cleared a titanium complex project to be set up by Titanium Mineral Products Ltd in Ganjam district with an investment of Rs 1,003 crore. The three companies will sign agreements with the State Government shortly, said the Steel and Mines Minister, Mr Padmanabha Behera. The clearance authority has also permitted the enhancement of the capacity of a steel plant project of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd from the proposed 2 mt to 6 mt. The company has already signed a memorandum of understanding for the project.
