Generating growth

This is with reference to the editorial "Manufacturing growth" (Business Line, September 29) which has stressed the need for giving impetus to manufacturing, development of infrastructure, reduction in prices and paying attention to the rural and urban unorganised sections.

If the manufacturing sector could reach into rural areas like the Chinese model, it could generate employment growth, improve purchasing power, reduce prices, absorb excess labour on the agricultural front and thus contribute to growth.

A. Jacob Sahayam
