Software Corporate - New Projects TCS sets up 4th corporate research lab in Delhi Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept. 29 TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) has set up its fourth corporate research lab here with ten people. They will work on grid computing, collaborative software development and services oriented architecture (SOA) targeted at business requirements of customers. The lab is also looking at funding research in IITs and US Universities. "We are actively looking at proposals in this regard," he said. "We began with a team of 10 people in April 2005 and we will grow it to 20 in the next couple of years. "We will keep the team small and focused," the TCS Vice-President (Technology Programmes), Mr Gautam Shroff, said at a press conference here. "We have invested in the required hardware and software on a need basis," he said, declining to give financial details. TCS currently employs around 300 people in its R&D labs across Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore. The latest lab, to be called the innovation Lab (iLab), will work with the other three. "Code generation tools developed by the Pune lab are being integrated into a SOA framework," he said This will help improve the productivity of software developers. The company was also working with customers in financial, insurance and life sciences space for doing commercial grid computing using SOA technology, he said, without divulging names. iLab was integrating TCS code generation, testing and standards checking tools along with tools from technology partners such as IBM, Microsoft and Oracle into an integrated global collaborative software development offering, Dr Shroff added. "We are increasingly doing complete end-to-end outsourcing and so we need cutting edge technology, which this lab will develop," he said.
