Prices improve at Coonoor tea auction

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Oct. 2

MANUAL sale and the increased purchases by the exporters helped greater absorption of the teas at relatively improved prices at the Coonoor Teas Trade Association (CTTA) auctions here.

Due to disruption in the e-auctions some brokers were allowed to sell manually. "Manual auctions helped us to push our teas off the catalogue. We could sell 90 per cent of the offer when under the e-auctions, we struggle to sell 60 per cent. The increased off-take helped the market significantly", an auctioneer told Business Line.

Pakistan picked up clean black grades for up to Rs 39 a kg. Iraq bought its favourite grades for up to Rs 36. CIS picked up the BOPL and BOP grades for up to Rs 30. Poland imported pekoes, SBOP teas paying up to Rs 24.

Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) bought better medium grades. Tata Tea operated on bolder grades.
