Recruitment aid to IT cos in Tier-II cities

Hyderabad , Oct. 3

IN an effort to facilitate companies to locate centres in Tier-II cities in the State, the Andhra Pradesh Government now plans to provide recruitment assistance apart from other incentives including single window clearance.

According to Mrs K. Ratna Prabha, Secretary, Information Technology and Communication, during 2004-2005 Vijayawada with 17 companies, accounted for Rs 24 crore and Visakhapatnam with 38 companies accounted for Rs 70 crore, out of the overall Rs 8,270-crore IT exports in the State.

Given the poor contribution from Tier-II cities, the focus of the Government has now shifted to strengthening infrastructure in these towns, while supporting and encouraging companies to scout for local talent. As a part of this drive, the Government plans to provide recruitment assistance as well, according to a statement from ITC department.

Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore and Tirupati have been identified for focus apart from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, which account for most of IT exports from the State.

While partnering with the Software Technology Parks of India, the State Government seeks to extend some sops both in terms of acquisition of land and registration, by providing flexible stamp duty structure for IT companies.

Further, based on the ICT Policy announced for 2005-2010 period, these companies would be entitled for lower stamp duty while registering land, and are also entitled for power at lower tariffs. They would be accorded single window clearance, the statement said.
