Airlines Scheme to prevent Vizag airport flooding Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , Oct. 3 A SCHEME has been formulated at a cost of Rs 26 crore to prevent the frequent flooding of Visakhapatnam airport, which is situated in a low-lying area, causing disruption of flights, according to the Collector of Visakhapatnam, Mr Praveen Prakash. After a review meeting here on Monday on the damage caused by recent cyclones and floods, the Collector said that the airport was getting frequently inundated as it is situated in a low-lying area and floodwater from Meghadrigedda reservoir was swamping it. "After the recent visit of the Central team to inspect the damage to the airport, a drainage scheme has been formulated at a cost of Rs 26 crore,'' he said. Mr Prakash said the excess water would be drained out into the sea and by next year, night-landing facilities would also be created at the airport with the completion of expansion. Bigger aircraft would be able to land here.
