Mumbai port plans 8-10 pc tariff hike

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Oct. 3

MUMBAI port proposes to increase its tariff by eight to 20 per cent. This is for the first time, after many years, the port is going in for a comprehensive revision in tariff.

The proposal has been submitted to the Tariff Authority for Major Ports for approval.

The board of trustees of the port trust would also be discussing the proposal at its next meeting later this month, a port official said.

The tariff was last increased in 2002. " That was a piecemeal revision. Now we are going for a comprehensive revision,'' the official said.

There has been a substantial increase in the port's operational costs. The port operations cannot be cost effective unless these cost are recovered, the official said.
