Chennai , Oct. 4

ALTOSYS Software Technology in collaboration with Scotty, UK, makers of videophone tele-health care kits, has launched Altosys Scotty Tele-Healthcare System that enables patients to establish contact with their doctors, even over a distance.

Mr Stuart E. Ross, Chief Technology Officer, Scotty, said the Altosys Scotty Tele-Healthcare System is equipped with a remote diagnostic kit that sends vital information directly to the doctor sitting miles away.

The information includes the patient's pulse rate, ECG, blood pressure and temperature.

Mr Ross said the accuracy of the readings at the testing stage of the product was high.

The system is identical to a telephone with a video screen attached, and one can contact the doctor by simply dialling a number. Mr G. Dijendranath, Chief Operating Officer, Altosys Software Technologies, said "The existing tele-medicine set-up is not cost effective or convenient. It costs Rs 4-6 lakhto set up, because it is dependent on a VSAT link-up." The Altosys Scotty system costs between Rs 65,000 and Rs 75,000 per unit, and functions on any broadband connection. It has an FDA approval, and is available both for purchase and lease. Many hospitals, including Apollo Hospitals, have shown interest to use the system, according to Mr Dijendranath.
