Indus Airways to take to skies this month

A NEW airline, Indus Airways, being promoted by the liquor baron, Mr Kapil Mohan, along with two non-resident Indians among others, is to take to the skies shortly.

"I will be investing in the airline in my personal capacity. Besides, my company will also be investing in the project. However, the details of the investment cannot be announced just yet," the Airline Chairman, Mr Kapil Mohan, said.

The airline, that plans to take to the skies by the end of the month, is to start operations with two leased 50-seater CRJ 200 aircraft.

"The aircraft are being leased from the German airline Lufthansa and will arrive in India soon. Besides, the airline will be getting three more CRJ aircraft by December this year. A firm date for the airline launch will be announced shortly," an airline official said.

Indus Airways plans to have a fleet of at least 10 aircraft by the end of next year including three Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The routes on which the airline plans to operate include Delhi-Pune-Bangalore and Delhi-Jammu-Mumbai among others.

Besides, Mr Kapil Mohan several retired officials of Air India are also participating in the airline.
