Hyderabad , Oct. 4

THE State Minister for Municipal Administration, Mr Koneru Ranga Rao, today said the State Government might offer one traffic corridor in Hyderabad for development of Skybus.

This is part of the State Government initiative to decongest city traffic by creating a reliable mode of mass rapid public transport along three busy corridors in the city.

Replying to a question during the Question Hour, the Mr Ranga Rao said the State Government had informed the Centre that Konkan Railway Corporation has come forward to develop the Skybus Metro System in Hyderabad on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis at their cost.

If the Centre agreed to the proposal, Konkan Railway Corporation might be allowed to take up this project on a pilot commercial basis, he added.

It may be recalled that the Government through the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has floated global tenders seeking expression of interest for this ambitious transport project, which would envisage investment of about Rs 6,700 crore.

Major global firms including Bombardier, Siemens, and some domestic companies have shown interest in the project. The MCH had recently extended the deadline for submitting expression of interest.
