Vintage vehicles to deck Delhi-Shimla road from tomorrow

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 5

THE road between Delhi and Shimla will be set ablaze for three days from October 7 not by the mean machines of today, but 35 classic and vintage motoring beauties of days gone by who are participating in the `Heritage drive-2005'.

The oldest car participating in the three-day event is a four-cylinder 1927 Standard Coventry, which if they are to be believed, was till recently lying in complete disarray in Rajasthan.

"There was a tree growing in the car, it was used to store chicken and as a cradle for young animals. But now it has been restored to its original glory and will take part in the event," an event organisor said. The event will showcase how the owners of these cars, many of which have long ceased to be produced, have managed to maintain them.
